Cost of British Tennis Membership

The new British Tennis Membership has caused controversy in some clubs . But with the latest estimation from the LTA that while it it is free for juniors and adults for 2008, it will also still be free for juniors and only £7.50 for adults in 2009 ; this surely scotches the idea that it has been a large fund raising exercise and is infact an administrative change that gives individual players a lot of potential benefits in line with those enjoyed in other countries such as France.

But it has all the hallmarks of a marketing scam.

At our club we are affiliated to the LTA, why the need for individual membership?

Is there some desire to contact players directly without being filtered through their club?

Perhaps to sell on marketing details to interested parties?

Yes there is a desire to communicate with individual players directly, but it is not for a money making exercise .The LTA have gone gone to immense trouble to learn who their players are to administer the game efficiently. All of us singles players can see our results on our own player section of the LTA website posted in days and our player rating adjusted every haf year.Hope its the same for doubles results soon.
